Riivo Jõgi (1987) graduated Põlva Gymnasium and Põlva Music School, where he learned piano, with honours (2006). He graduated Estonian Music and Theatre Academy with cum laude in professor Toomas Kapten’s class on choral and orchestral conducting (2011, 2012).

 

Riivo Jõgi is the conductor of Estonian Police and Border Guard Orchestra, Estonian Youth Wind Orchestra, Nõmme Music School Symphony Orchestra, Põlva Music School String Orchestra and Viljandi Youth Symphony Orchestra. From 2016 he is a board member of Estonian Symphony Orchestras Association.

 

In addition to conducting orchestras he is also teaching pop-jazz singers and vocal ensembles. Riivo Jõgi is an appreciated concertmaster and has been awarded with several special prizes for piano accompaniment, ensemble arrangements and teaching on various competitions.

 

Riivo Jõgi has arranged numerous songs and written original compositions for orchestras, choirs and ensembles. His orchestral piece “Sea Journey” (“Meresõit”) was played at the Estonian Song Celebration in 2014. His two pieces were played at the Song Celebration in 2017. Wind orchestras played his piece “On the Way Home” (“Koduteel”) and for symphony orchestras he wrote a composition “Journey” (“Rännak”), which is a suite of Estonia’s older generation’s composers’ pieces (Eller, Rääts, Tobias, Tormis, Villem Kapp). Wind orchestras performed his piece “To you, Estonia” (“Sinule, Eesti”) at the jubilee celebration in 2019. Riivo Jõgi has also been one of the conductors at the Song Celebration.

 

In 2016 Riivo Jõgi was given a title of Hobby School Worker of the Year (Estonian Ministry of Education and Research) and Young Orchestral Conductor of the Year (Estonian Choral Assotiation). In 2017 he earned Estonian Symphony Orchestras Association’s award of the year for his activity in 2016. In 2020 Riivo Jõgi gained a state award of Non-formal Education Teacher of the Year (Estonian Ministry of Education and Research).
