After getting a license in music education from Laval University, Laurent Breton began his career as a clarinetist with the Royal 22th Regiment. He was a music teacher for over 32 years at François-Bourrin high school in Beauport.


His love for music and his finesse for bringing together musicians led him to found the Harmonie des Cascades de Beauport, of which he was the musical director for 31 years. Endowed with remarkable commitment and dedication, he propelled the fame of the Harmonie des Cascades on the national stage and during international tours in Europe and China.


A man of action, Laurent Breton is also involved in an important regional project, that of offering quality musical education in a perspective of development and improvement. He created the Cascades de Beauport Music School which, since its founding, has welcomed several thousand students.


During his career, he was the architect of several large-scale projects. Among them is the 1 er Eurochestries festival across the Atlantic, the “Eurochestries in Quebec” Festival, of which he was a proud ambassador. He made Quebec City a must-see for festival-goers from many countries.



Laurent Breton's exceptional contribution to the cultural sector has earned him several prizes and distinctions including the Lieutenant-Governor's medals as well as the National Assembly, the Citizen of Merit Municipal Award of Beauport, the Recognition Award for his contribution to cultural development by the city of Baie-Saint-Paul and a tribute to the Murs des celebrities de Beauport. He is also a recipient of the Queen Elizabeth II Jubilee Medal.
