Dr Vinicius Mariano de Carvalho is born in Barra Mansa, Brazil. He started his music studies in a community brass band at his hometown. He conducted several choirs in Juiz de Fora, Brazil, where he was also director of the Camerata Jovem do Pro-Musica and the Chamber Orchestra of Pro-Musica. Directing this ensemble, he firstly participated in Eurochestries, in 2009. In 2010 he was guest conductor for the Eurochestries Festival at Charente Maritime (France). He worked in Denmark, teaching at Aarhus University and directing the JUSO Youth Orchestra and with group he participated in Eurochestries in Slovakia.
Currently he works at King’s College London, as director of King’s Brazil Institute and conductor of the King’s Brazil Ensemble. Dr De Carvalho has several academic works in musicology, mainly about Brazilian church music and about the history of military bands and music in Brazil. He is the author of the book ‘Military Music in the Triple Alliance War.’ (Editora PUC Minas, 2018) he has presented his research in universities in Brazil, UK, France, Portugal, USA and Germany. Dr. Carvalho plays flute and percussion.
