Born in 1957, Sylvain Marchal studied music at the University of Strasbourg and at the Conservatoire National de Région where he won several prizes for clarinet, musical training and chamber music. He completes his training with studies and internships in orchestral conducting, writing, pedagogy ... embellished among other things, multiple and enriching artistic encounters, while claiming a large part of self-teaching!
Very early on, he began a career as a teacher and taught clarinet, solfège and ensemble music in many music schools in the Alsace region. In 1982 and until 2003, he participated in the creation and directed the municipal music school of Mundolsheim, a school which has now become the “Ravel” Intercommunal Music School, an establishment with some 500 students.
In 1985, his professional activities took shape with the obtaining of the post of permanent artistic advisor to the Federation of Music Societies of Alsace, an activity that he continued, until September 2019, at Cadence, a regional music center.
On the other hand, he has conducted several harmony orchestras, big bands, operas and, as guest conductor, multiple instrumental and vocal groups. From 1996 to 2016, he directed the Orchester symphonique des jeunes de Strasbourg, a phalanx of 50/60 musicians with which follow one another concerts (more than 300 in twenty years), tours (France, Quebec, Italy, Greece, Austria, USA , Poland, Croatia, Slovenia…), CD, creations and multiple original experiences.
While pursuing an activity of trainer, speaker and composer having already been the subject of numerous orders, creations and editions, he willingly lends his pen to various journals, participates in the writing of books and regularly engages in the writing of tales and other vertically drowsy stories.
He is also secretary general of Eurochestries International.
