Holder of a master's degree in musicology and analysis, the aggregation of music and the state diploma in conducting instrumental ensembles, Mathias Charton very early on became a committed player in the world of musical pedagogy and the direction of choir.
In addition to his current position as Academy Inspector - Regional Pedagogical Inspector of musical education and choral singing at the Poitiers Academy, Mathias Charton teaches orchestral conducting at the Conservatoire à Rayonnement Régional de Poitiers and choir conducting at the Center of Training of Intervening Musicians of Poitiers.
In 2006, Mathias entered the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique de Paris (CNSMDP) where he studied conducting with Claire Levacher, the history of music with Rémy Campos and musical analysis with Alain Louvier. During his training, he also received the teachings of Gilles Millière, Dominique My, François-Xavier Bilger, Gérard Streleski, Jean-Marc Cochereau… In May 2008, he was the first French conductor selected to participate in the European Conductor Championship in Stavanger, Norway.
Eclectic and passionate musician, Mathias was, in 2005, one of the founding members of the Brassage Musique association. In November 2006, Mathias took part in the creation of the Musiques en Seine symphony orchestra as conductor. He was then musical director of the Star Pop Orchestra with which he recorded numerous soundtracks for television and cinema and of the Orchester d'Harmonie Français. Mathias is regularly invited to lead numerous groups (Orchester des Laureates du Conservatoire, Ensemble de saxophones du CNSMDP, Orchester symphonique Hélios, Orchester symphonique Rives de Seine, Burgundy Brass Band, Brass Band Borgiaq, Chœur Discipulus, Les Voix de l'Estuaire, etc.).
Since 2012, he has directed the choirs of the Maîtrise de Seine-Maritime with which he has won numerous international awards (European Choir Games, Neerpelt, Venice, Tours, Rimini). With these ensembles, he defends the great repertoire for choir and orchestra and strives to create the works of his contemporaries (Requiem by Jean Legoupil, Europe of my Dreams by Thierry Machuel, Chemins couleur du temps by Anthony Girard, Concerto for marimba and chorus by Gene Koshinsky, etc.).
In 2017, he founded and directed the Yvetot International Choral Festival which welcomes around ten choirs from all over the world every two years.
In March 2021, he was elected president of the National Federation of School Choirs. Mathias Charton is now invited to conduct throughout Europe (Germany, Belgium, Spain, Italy, Norway, Russia, Sweden ...).
