Boris Spassov is full-time conductor in Sofia Opera and Ballet. He has graduated Orchestral Conducting in Bulgarian State Conservatory (now National Music Academy "Pancho Vladigerov”) in the class of Prof. Vladi Simeonov. He has specialized in Bolshoi Theatre with world-famous conductor Mark Ermler. He has participated in master classes for conducting of Witold Rovitski in Vienna. From 1980 till 1988 Boris Spassov is conductor of Rousse State Philharmonic. From 1984, he was guest conductor of the Sofia Opera and Ballet. From 1988, Boris Spassov is full-time conductor of the Sofia Opera and Ballet. He has taught in New Bulgarian University at the majors “Singing with conductor” and “Opera and symphonic conducting”. He is professor at the National Music Academy "Pancho Vladigerov” “Opera singing with conductor”. In 2005, he is awarded with "Golden Muse" for successful performance of works by Russian musical treasure. In 2006, he received the highest music award in Bulgaria - "Golden Lyre" for complete musical creativity.

 

His wide repertoire includes operas, ballets, symphonic and chamber works from world music classics, operettas and musicals, film music. Rimsky-Korsakov, Rachmaninov, Bruckner, Mahler, Shostakovich, Prokofiev, Khachaturian, Shimanovski, Z. Kodaly, Sibelius, Stravinsky, Honegger, Shabrie, Britten, De Falla, Rodrigo, Albenits, Eshpay, Dominique Lemaître, P. Stainov, P. Vladigerov, L. Pipkov, V. Stoyanov, N. Atanassov, M. Goleminov, and many other classic, Bulgarian and contemporary authors.Boris Spassov has a special interest in works of Schubert and orchestrate one of his unfinished symphonies, namely - 7th Symphony in E major (1821), whose first performance, conducted by Boris Spassov was at 13th December 1978 in Sofia. In 2003 he was made a studio recording work, orchestrated by him in the National Radio - a new version implementing the National Radio Symphony Orchestra. The symphony was presented in 2004 by the Symphony Orchestra of Varna "Easter Festival", conducted by Boris Spassov. He has repeated tours of prestigious festivals and scenes in Russia, Japan, Italy, Germany, United Kingdom, Switzerland, Spain, France, Egypt, Taiwan, Colombia, Macedonia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Albania.

 

From 2007 he is conducting the performances of the "International Ballet of Ochi" with orchestra "Aichi Central Orchestra" - Nagoya: "The Corsair", "Swan Lake", "Don Quixote", "Gisele" in Aichiken Art Center in Nagoya, Japan. In 2013 he is invited to conduct the 88th Anniversary concert for Minoru Ochi, founder of ballet company in Nagoya. In 2017 he is going to conduct again "Swan Lake". In 2008 and 2015 toured in Japan with Sofia Opera and Ballet with "Turandot" by Puccini, which was enthusiastically welcomed by Japanese audiences. Boris Spassov is conducting Sofia Opera and Ballet with "The Corsair" at 13.05.2018 in "Bolshoi Theatre" in Russia.

 

He is guest conductor of symphonic orchestras and operas in Bulgaria and abroad. From 2008 to 2010 he has been chief conductor of the world-famous Youth Philharmonic Orchestra Pioneer with which in 2009 had concerts in the "Bulgaria" Hall - Sofia and participated at the 20th Anniversary International Festival of Eurochestries in France where he conducted concerts of YPO "Pioneer" and the International Youth Symphony Orchestra at remarkable level. He is invited as honourable guest conductor from Festival Eurochestries in August 2011 in Charente-Maritime, France.

 

Long-time creative work of the experienced conductor Boris Spassov is successfully realized at the stage of Sofia Opera and Ballet. In his career, Boris Spassov was Municipal Council in Municipality of Sofia and MP in the 38 th National Assembly for the Blue coalition. Boris Spassov is a member of Vienna Club - Sofia.

 

Boris Spassov is married to the Japanese singer Kumiko Terao.
