Playful ! If only one word could describe Louis Babin's approach to composition, it would be this one, because creation is a form of games for him. His early works are also associated with theatrical play.
Viola until the early twenties and trumpeter for 40 years, Louis Babin has touched on all musical genres: classical, jazz, contemporary, experimental, current and even popular, which will have him brought to play in New York, Paris, Basel, Zurich and Toronto.
It is a rich palette of eclectic languages that gives him the necessary tools to compose his cinematographic works, short films, feature films, documentaries, animated films and even advertising. However, he retains a deep interest in concert music. Following a return to studies at the University of Montreal, he was offered a few commissions for works including a piece for brass quintet, created by the musicians of the Orchester métropolitain du Grand Montréal in 2007.
His musical language is refined and defined with his pieces for piano, string orchestra, chamber orchestra and symphony orchestra. Whether for these film scores or his concert works, Louis Babin has received prizes, special mentions and other nominations in international prizes and competitions.
In recent years, his involvement in musical creation in schools in the Montreal region has taken an important place. He also distinguished himself by being published in the journals Musique et Pedagogie and Canadian Music Educator. His articles have been featured on the Music Education website.
